Our office offers comprehensive optometric services, including children’s vision, eye health evaluations, contact lenses, frame and lens dispensary services, computer vision syndrome evaluations, and consultation services for cataract surgery, glaucoma, Lasik, and eye lid surgery. We believe our Augusta and Valley Center patients need these services offered conveniently close to where they live. At the same time, many of our patients come from all over Butler, Sedgwick, Reno, Harvey, and Cowley counties as well as Wichita. Some travel from as far away as Alaska and Asia for regular care in our office. Evening and early morning hours are available to help avoid missed work and school.

Comprehensive Eye Health Examinations

We believe these are an integral part of great health and preventive eye care. Many systemic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, lupus erythematosus, sarcoidosis, and rheumatoid arthritis are all examples of diseases which may be discovered or partly monitored through eye examinations. . Likewise diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, cataracts, dry eyes and retinal detachment may all be discovered initially during a regularily scheduled annual comprehensive eye exam. Eye focusing problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness, presbyopia, astigmatism, and binocular vision problems are also routinely evaluated during these visits.

Treatment of Eye Disease

Our office has a wide range of experience treating most common and many less common eye diseases. While in optometry school, Dr. Giannetti received training at the University of Chicago Hospital for treatment of ocular disease, working under highly regarded eye specialists. Both Dr. Todd and Dr. Giannetti keep current with the latest technology and treatment plans to properly diagnose and manage most ocular conditions. Some like diabetic retinopathy have become less common, while others such as dry eyes seem to be increasing every year. New medications both prescription and over the counter have greatly enhanced our ability to effectively treat eye disease. Many of our patients worry about the future of their health insurance with all the legislative activity recently. This should become much more clear once the political climate settles after the 2012 elections.

Dispensary Services

We are proud of our full service optical dispensary. Our dispensary staff have extensive experience with frame and lens selection, glasses repair and adjustment. They regularly attend continuing education to expand their knowledge and ability to serve your needs. Our in house laboratory can assist in special services.

Prescription Eyewear

We stock frames from 14 different manufacturers and over 50 different designers. We feature Maui Jim sunglasses, and can create custom sunglass clips for virtually any prescription or frame. Cole Hann, Jimmy Choo, Ted Baker and Lulu Guiness headline our brands. We prescribe several brands of progressive lenses for great looking bifocal and trifocal orders. Transitions lenses provide a changing tint for activities in bright and dimmer conditions which can be used in any frame style or brand. We frequently suggest high index lenses to help make even the highest prescriptions look much thinner and feel much lighter weight for greater appearance and comfort.

Vision Therapy

Many children and adults struggle with problems resulting from problems with eye alignment, focusing, and tracking. Often these problems result in poor school performance, headaches, excessive eye fatigue and shortened attention span. Adults often experience severe eye discomfort after extended periods of near or computer work. Problems such as convergence insufficiency, convergence excess, divergence excess, acommodative insufficiency, esotropia, and exotropia may all be helped with vision therapy. For some patients short programs of vision therapy may well control these problems. Other patients require extensive vision therapy to reduce their complaints. While our office does not provide prolonged in-office we will recommend office that will be happy to assist you.

Lasik and Refractive Surgery

There are many forms of refractive surgery available to patients now. You may have heard names such as IntraLase femtosecond laser, bladefree, iLASIK, IntraLASIK, bladeless, and no blade all-laser LASIK. Our office keeps up to date on all the options available for our patients. Not everyone is a good candidate for refractive surgery procedures and the costs vary greatly depending upon many variables. We can offer you options and advise as well as expert follow-up care after surgery. In most cases, after an evaluation in our office, we can arrange no-charge consultations with the surgeon for these procedures.
